Green Roof Project

the-two-rigs-set-up-for-the-green-roof-projectA science experiment to test green roof sedum varieties has been set up by a group of Year 8 students as they investigate which materials will be best suited to the roofs of the new school buildings.  With a visit to St Bart’s by expert Dr Alun Tarr from Blackdown Horticulture in Somerset, the students discussed how green roofs increase building energy efficiency and create a natural habitat for wildlife.  Miniature scaled green roofs were then planted in specially constructed wooden boxes and set up in the school grounds.  The students will be monitoring the growth rates of the sedum.
