New Headteacher Appointment

19 July 2013

Message from the Chair of Governors

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the governors at St Bartholomew’s School have appointed Ms Julia Mortimore to be headteacher with effect from 1 January 2014.  Ms Mortimore joins from The Costello School in Basingstoke, where she currently holds the position of headteacher.  This appointment will follow the retirement of Mrs Christina Haddrell at the end of December this year, who joined as Deputy Headteacher in 1998 and has steered the school through a period of major change over the last four years.

We look forward to welcoming Ms Mortimore to St Bart’s.  She has enormous strengths and an impressive track record.  She will be taking forward a school with a rich history and ethos at the heart of our community in Newbury.

Over the past four years Mrs Haddrell has led the school into our fantastic new buildings and facilities where our students enjoy a wide and varied curriculum and superb opportunities.  She is the driver behind our latest ambitious project, to be completed in December 2013, which will provide additional space for exams, independent study and extracurricular activities.    Mrs Haddrell’s commitment to meeting the ever changing needs of education in the 21st century and her continued enthusiasm will ensure a robust foundation for Ms Mortimore when she joins next January.

Next term, Ms Mortimore will be visiting St Bart’s from time to time to get to know us before she takes up the appointment on 1 January 2014.

May I wish you an enjoyable summer and we look forward to returning in September to a busy and productive autumn term.
