students
Dear All,
There is much speculation about school closures and about
the scheduling of this summer’s exams, and when put alongside the widespread
apprehension about health, I recognise that this is a very unsettling time for you
all. Above all, I want to acknowledge how difficult things are for you and to
assure you that we will do everything we can to support you over the coming
months.
I want to confirm that the school will remain open until
such time as the government directs us to close, or until such time as staff
absence makes it impossible to keep the school open safely. If we move to a
partial closure, our priority will be to support students with public exams
this summer.
As far as the exams are concerned, we have no information
as yet from the government or from exam boards about the rescheduling of exams.
It seems that we should anticipate some considerable disruption but we cannot
yet anticipate what form this disruption will take. It is important that
everyone recognises that this is a national issue and that any disruption will
affect all courses and all institutions. It is not the case that students with
more practical components will be at a greater disadvantage. I am anticipating
that universities will wait until the exam situation clarifies before making
any judgment on entry for 2020.
Hard as it may seem, I would encourage everyone to
continue to apply themselves with conviction to their studies, and in
circumstances where students or teachers are self-isolating or circumstances
where the school is closed, students should look to maintain contact with their
teachers via email and, most importantly, SMHW. This will be our main avenue
for sharing work throughout this period.
Unless your circumstances meet the criteria set out in
government guidance (https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response),you should continue to attend school. Of course, if you
are showing symptoms you should follow guidelines that have been established to
protect you and the wider community.
With very best wishes to you all.
Kind regards,
Mr A Robbins
Head of Sixth Form
