Congratulations to Mabel (12C5), Katie (13P4), Sophie (12C5) and Anna (13E2), who this month starred in The Watermill’s ‘A Monster Calls’. Based on the novel by Patrick Ness, The Watermill’s Youth Ensemble brought to life a new adaptation of this heartbreaking tale of grief, mischief, healing and finding the courage to survive.

“It was a wonderful experience getting to tell such an important story about grief and loss. I feel so lucky to be a part of a production that uses professional resources in its making,” said Mabel.

The production partnered with Mind in Berkshire and received fantastic reviews, with the Newbury Today commenting that “Katie showed extraordinary physicality as the Monster”, “Emma, Sophie and Alexander were the perfect trio of bullies” and “Mabel was sensitive and understanding as teacher, Miss Godfrey”. “We all really enjoyed this experience, from production to performance. Everyone within the theatre worked great together, making it a valuable, special memory for all of us,” said Sophie.
