Year 8 Football – West Berkshire Champions!

April 4, 2025

The Year 8 Football team kept the unbeaten run going with matches against John O’Gaunt School and Trinity School. St Bart’s won their first match against John O’Gaunt, 5 -2. Goals were scored by Tommy (x2), Adam, Evan and Zach. St Bart’s then played their final league match of the season against Trinity, which was a well contested game that finished 1-1. The goal was scored by Adam. Player of the afternoon was awarded to Tom for his great defending throughout both games.

This means that St Bart’s are West Berkshire league champions, winning four matches and drawing one! Well done to all students who have played their part in the football season so far.

Year 8 boys also won the 3rd round of the County Cup, 9-1 against Furze Platt Senior School. St Bart’s started the game well taking an early lead. The strong start continued until half time with the score 6-0 going into the break. The start of the second half was more evenly contested with Furze Platt scoring the first goal of the half. However, St Bart’s regained control and scored three more goals to win the match 9-1. Goals were scored by Tommy (x3), Adam (x2), Zach, Alex, Evan and Tyler. Player of the match was awarded to Adam for his constant pressing and for scoring two goals.

Well done to all involved.

Chloe at Crufts!

April 4, 2025

Following on from Flo’s amazing success at Crufts dog competitions, we have discovered that another student, Chloe (10C3), also took part. This was the fourth year that Chloe has competed at the dog show, achieving the best results yet.

Chloe and dog Woody came 13th overall in the Agility Dog of the Year. This also includes a 2nd in the semi-final. What an outstanding achievement for Chloe. Well done!

Mr King’s Bench

April 4, 2025

On Thursday 20 March, a bench honouring the name of former history teacher, John King, was delivered to the School. Former students of St Bart’s, Andrew Cadwell, David Pearson, Robert Fidler and Richard Gray thought so highly of John as the teacher who ‘inspired so many’ as the plaque reads, that they created a Just Giving Page and raised over £1000 in his name. With the money they bought two beautiful benches; one to stand in the School’s Heritage Garden and the other to be presented to East Woodhay Cricket Club where Mr King was President for many years

Pictured are the four former students responsible for creating this splendid memorial for a truly inspirational teacher.

Year 11 Football

April 3, 2025

The Year 11 Boys football team played their final league fixture this afternoon against Trinity School. It was a game of two halves with Trinity going into half time 2-0 up. A resilient St Bart’s side managed to score 4 goals in the second half to win the match 4-3. Goals were scored by Eddie (x2), Kobi and Connor. Player of the match was awarded to Connor for his composure on the ball and for his wonder strike from outside the area. Well done to everyone involved as it was a brilliant second half performance.

Year 7 Football County Cup Semi Final

April 3, 2025

Congratulations to the Year 7 boys’ football team who represented the school in the Berkshire County Cup Semi Final v Little Heath School.

The match was a very close one between two very good sides. Little Heath went ahead with two very well taken early goal opportunities. St Bart’s came back in the second half with an excellent team goal, and for a long time it looked as though the game could go either way. Little Heath scored again directly from a corner in the last part of the match, and the final score was St Bart’s 1 – Little Heath 3.

Players of the match (holding match balls) were centre back, Freddie Dancey, for his excellent defence, and centre midfielder and captain, Baxter Finch, for his work rate in the middle of the pitch and leading by example.

The boys should be extremely proud of finishing in the last four in the county in their first year at St Bart’s. The future of football looks bright.

St Bart’s at Greenfest

April 3, 2025

With GreenFest just days away, excitement is building as St Bart’s finalises preparations for the three stalls we’ll be showcasing at this year’s event. Our students have been hard at work, and we can’t wait to share our sustainability initiatives with the wider community.

First up, we have our Kintsugi Stall, inspired by the Japanese philosophy that celebrates the beauty in broken things by repairing them with care. Our students have embraced this ethos by creating and selling unique Kintsugi-repaired china, demonstrating how restoration can be both sustainable and artistic. A selection of these pieces will be on display and available for purchase.

Next, our Guardians of the Living Realm (the dedicated team responsible for documenting and protecting the diverse wildlife on our school site) will be showcasing their work. Visitors can watch exclusive footage of the many species we share our space with, including Socks the Fox, Brian May the Badger, Owlivia Hooton-John, and Philip the Hedgehog. To support our Nature Reserve Restoration Project, we’ll also be selling custom pin badges featuring our beloved school wildlife.

Finally, we’re proud to be represented by Clean-Cut, a student-led company dedicated to sustainable craftsmanship. Fresh from their recent “Best Overall Company” award at the Young Enterprise trade fair, Clean-Cut will be selling their beautifully upcycled glasses and coasters, ensuring that every piece of leftover glass finds a purpose—zero waste, maximum creativity!

Charlie Gale, Clean-Cut Company Member, said, “we’re looking forward to attending GreenFest. It is a great opportunity to showcase our up-cycled glasses and coasters.  We have been working hard over the past few weeks to produce our glasses, using the left-over glass to create coasters, therefore ensuring no waste in our production process. We are excited to engage with the wider community and celebrate our shared commitment to sustainability.” You can view our price list and Instagram page by clicking here.

Make sure to visit our stalls, support these fantastic student initiatives and be part of an event that celebrates creativity, community and environmental action. See you at GreenFest this Saturday!
