The redevelopment project will reach a major milestone on Friday 29 January when the building is ‘topped out’ . Students will play a part in the topping out ceremony and each year group has one representative attending. Guests from West Berkshire Council, the school’s Charitable Foundation, staff and governors will also be present.
Topping out is a traditional ceremony to mark structural completion and involves the placing of oil, corn, wine and salt in the ground which helps bless the building with good luck. It is also a sign that the project, being built by contractor Willmott Dixon, is on the home straight towards completion at the end of October 2010.
