Army and RAF Field Day

Published 15 June 2023

86 cadets, supported by staff, attended this event at Bramley Training Area, near Basingstoke.

The RAF spent the morning on various fieldcraft activities, in particular, establishing a harbour area, undertaking a recce patrol, the aim of which was to identify 20 individual items en route, and cooking in the field. Following lunch, they completed a lengthy orienteering course which covered much of our allocated area.

The Army also spent their day on many of the fieldcraft activities specified in the Army syllabus, patrolling, cam and concealment, hand signals, types of movement (for example). The undoubted highlight for many was their first opportunity to fire blank ammunition in an ambush situation, an activity that generated both anticipation and excitement.
