Champions of Enterprise Final

On 6 December we travelled to Shaw House to take part in the final round of Champions of Enterprise.  After competing with the other teams in our year, we were selected to represent St Bartholomew’s against other schools in the local area; Park House, Little Heath and Trinity.

The challenge we won to be selected for the final was to invent a strategy for a local business, appealing to our year group in ten years’ time.  We chose to create a plan for the Newbury branch of Waitrose.  Our ideas included various charity events for the store to take part in, including sponsoring for school sports days.  We also designed an app that the store could use to make shopping easier and more accessible to both future and existing customers. After being selected to represent the school, we further developed these ideas to host a ‘brand off’, in which we asked the judges and audience members to guess the price of different Waitrose foods.

On the day of the final, at Shaw House, we presented our ideas twice, firstly to a judging panel and, in the evening, to the rest of the schools and business professionals from around Newbury.

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as it taught us valuable skills such as teamwork and presentation.  It was also really interesting to develop our ideas, and we received valuable feedback on our work from the judges that we can apply to future projects. Overall, it was a great day and an excellent opportunity to learn more about the businesses in our area.
