The last few sedum plants which complete the green roofs on the new school buildings were put in place by some students in Years 9 and 10. The students viewed an area of roof on the Curnock block together with Councillor Geoff Findlay, Chairman of the Council. Also joining the group were headteacher Mrs Christina Haddrell, representatives from Willmott Dixon and their roofing subcontractor.
There are six different species of sedum on the roofs and these plants will provide a natural habitat for wildlife and will be a good insulator. The plants will also help prevent flooding as they will absorb rainwater minimising water runoff.
