Music From Outer Space!

Students from St Bart’s took part in a very successful and well attended concert on Saturday 8 June in collaboration with Newbury Symphony Orchestra and students from John Rankin School.

The theme of the concert, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Moon Landing, was music from outer space, and included……John William’s music from Star Wars, music featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey, excerpts from Holst’s Planets Suite and the world premiere of a new composition for clarinet & orchestra called Io (by local composer James Maunders), which featured spectacularly talented former St Bart’s student, Thomas Carr, as the clarinet soloist.

The high standard of playing from the St Bart’s students was a real credit to the school, and they held their own playing with the adult musicians of Newbury Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations to all involved in this spectacular event. It was out of this world!
