21 March 2014
Dear Parents and Carers
National Industrial Action: Wednesday 26 March 2014
Industrial action by one of the two main teaching unions, the National Union of Teachers, will be taking place on Wednesday 26 March 2014.
At all times, adequate staffing levels are essential in order to maintain an orderly, safe and productive environment in school. The duty of care for students’ safety and wellbeing is a paramount consideration when determining whether the school can remain open, if staffing levels are reduced. The scale of anticipated staff absence on 26 March is such that it will be necessary, on health and safety grounds, to operate with a partial closure of the school to students, on this date.
On Wednesday 26 March 2014 the school will be closed to students in Years 8-10.
School will be open on 26 March for Years 7, 11, 12 and 13
Students should bring reading books, homework for the times when they may not have their normal lessons.
Year 13 students should arrive at school in time for their lesson(s). Those who wish to study on site may do so, in the Sixth Form area for private study, the library or new enhancement area, in the normal way.
Year 12 students will be attending the Higher Education Day, as prearranged.
A limited canteen service will be available (sandwiches, baguettes and soup).
After school activities:
Boys’ PE clubs, the 1st XI Football Match and the 6th Form Netball Tournament at St Helen’s and St Kat’s. are all going ahead.
No other after school activities, which normally run on a Wednesday, will be taking place.
Thank you for your understanding.
