National Industrial Action – Thursday 17 October 2013

National Industrial Action: Thursday 17th October 2013

Industrial action by the two main teaching unions, the National Union of Teachers and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, will be taking place on Thursday 17th October.

At all times, adequate staffing levels are essential in order to maintain an orderly, safe and productive environment in school.  The duty of care for students’ safety and wellbeing is a paramount consideration, when determining whether the school can remain open, if staffing levels are reduced.  The scale of anticipated staff absence on 17th October is such that it will be necessary, on health and safety grounds, to operate with a partial closure of the school to students, on this date.

On Thursday 17th October 2013 the school will be closed to students in Years 8-10.

School will be open on 17th October for Year 11 as follows:

  • Year 11 Curnock and Davis students: 9.30am – 12.15pm.
  • Year 11 Evers and Patterson students: 12.45pm – 3.30pm.

At these times, students will sit their English practice exam in the Hall.

Curnock and Davis students should report to the Hub at 9.30 am, lining up in teaching groups.  Students will be dismissed to leave the school site at the end of the examination.

Evers and Patterson students should arrive in school and report to the Hub at 12.45pm lining up in teaching groups.

School will be open on 17th October for Year 7.

Year 7 students should report to the Dining Room at 8.40 a.m.

Year 7 students should bring their books and equipment for the lessons they would normally have on a Thursday. Where their teachers are available, normal lessons will run.

Students should bring reading books, homework and they may bring board games, for the times when they may not have their normal lessons.

A list of the Sixth Form classes which will be running, will be posted on the school website by 8.30am on 17th October.  Sixth Form students should arrive at school in time for their lesson(s).  For health and safety reasons, those who wish to study on site, must register in the Sixth Form area for private study.

A limited canteen service will be available (sandwiches, baguettes and soup).

After school activities:

The AS Theatre Studies Visit to London and the CCF Night exercise will run as calendared.

No other after school activities, which normally run on a Thursday, will be taking place except for Chinese lessons. Chinese during Activity Time and After School will take place as usual.

After school netball matches have been re-arranged.
