Students Triumph For Berkshire

Well done to George (13D5) and Cole (13P2) who played for Berkshire U18’s versus Cornwall U18’s at Hartpury recently, wrapping up a great season for the side in which Cole scored the opening try against Cornwall, putting some hefty tackles, with George playing the entire match at 10.

George and Cole have both enjoyed rugby since starting at St Bart’s six years ago, going on to play for Newbury and joining Berkshire as Under 15’s.

George feels he’s gained a lot from being involved in rugby at school and beyond. He says, “It has been a fantastic journey, learning from many coaches and being part of a dedicated and committed squad of players, which has also included several from St Bart’s and I’ve taken a great deal of pride in making the fly half position my own. So many of rugby’s core values overlap with those of St Bart’s in terms of teamwork, respect, enjoyment and sportsmanship, and these qualities are invaluable life skills. We are lucky at St Bart’s to have some great sports facilities and very good teachers who always offer encouragement to all students of all abilities and irrespective of whether they have tried a particular sport before. I therefore encourage everyone to get involved in sport at St Bart’s, as finding a sport that you enjoy is great for your confidence, gives you a lot of enjoyment and gives you discipline in respect of managing your time and academic studies”.

George continues, “I hope to go to university after St Bart’s, and whilst I will not study sports, some universities have noticed my rugby achievements on my UCAS form and personal statement, and are keen to attract me to their University based on the core values which my rugby journey has helped teach me”.

Berkshire played exceptionally well against a very big Cornwall side in some awful conditions at times and won, 9 tries to 6 tries in a very tight contest, when at one point they were losing 3-6! Well done boys.
