Geography (KS3)

Year 7

Overview
The schemes of work they follow are designed to fit in with the new National Curriculum guidelines at KS3. In Year 7, this focuses on the British Isles. Throughout the year, students will study: Rocks & Farming in the UK, Settlement which incorporates basic map skills, Weather & Climate in the British Isles; UK Tourism, Oceans & Islands.

Groupings & Teaching/Learning style 
Students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups in Year 7.
Students are taught using a variety of teaching and learning methods with a particularly strong emphasis on geographical enquiry. Students will have the opportunity of a field visit on the Curriculum Days at the end of the year.

Assessment 
For each topic students will be assessed on up to 4 pieces of work completed during the topic. This work will be completed either in class or as part of independent study. The assessments are designed to target a combination of the Assessment Objectives found at GCSE which cover knowledge, understanding and geographical skill.

Geography Year 8

The schemes of work they follow are designed to fit in with National Curriculum guidelines at KS3. In Year 8, these focus on geomorphic processes: Glaciation; Environmental Issues; Population and Coasts. Much of the work in Year 8 focuses on broadening students’ knowledge about places around the world as well as consolidating understanding of the local area, covered in Year 7.

Grouping & Teaching/Learning style
Students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups in Year 8. Students are taught using a variety of teaching and learning methods with an emphasis on geographical enquiry. Students will have the opportunity of a field visit in the Spring/Summer which links in with their geographical studies on Coasts.
