Train With Us
Interested in a career as a teacher? Thinking of a change in career? Do you want to train in an innovative and supportive environment?
We’re looking for people who have (or will have) a degree, have a passion for teaching and want to inspire young people to fulfil their potential.
Teaching in the UK is a graduate profession and, after completing a degree, you can undertake an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course to prepare you for the role of being a teacher. ITT courses usually lead to the professional qualification of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Bursaries of up to £30,000 may be available for trainees in certain subjects including art, biology, chemistry, computing, geography, languages, mathematics, music and physics.
Train to teach at St Bartholomew’s School
St Bartholomew’s School is part of a growing number of schools leading the way to a more school-led system of teacher training. Our training leads to a QTS, and a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) if desired, and is accredited by Buckingham University.
The course lasts a year (or 2 years if you wish to train part time) and trainees spend the majority of their time in school, learning directly from practitioners and gaining experience in how to support students in a classroom setting.
St Bart’s is part of the West Berkshire Hub for OTT SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training). Visit the OTT SCITT website for details of programmes offered, information events and application workshops, and for full information on eligibility requirements and funding. Applications go through the Department of Education’s teacher training ‘apply’ portal (select West Berkshire Hub as your study location).
