As we move into winter and experience more of the cold snap in weather, I would like to reassure parents and students that we anticipate that the school should remain open. Last year’s closures for snow were exceptional. The nature of our new school buildings, now that we are on one site, should make remaining open more straightforward than was the case in January. We have ample salt supplies and are currently investigating the purchase of snow clearing equipment, so that the car parking area can be cleared. Our new Hall will enable us to supervise students if staff are held up getting into work for any of their lessons.
However, should there ever be the need to close the school, the decision to close, open at a later start time or to limit opening to certain year groups, would usually be made before 7.00am. This information would be made available as follows:
– the Schoolcomms email system
– St Bart’s website
– West Berkshire Council website www.westberks.gov.uk (click on Schools)
– BBC Radio Berkshire 104.1fm
– Heart Radio
– Newbury Sound
If the school were to be closed, students should look on the Uniservity website to find the work set. Any students unable to access the site would be well advised to contact friends to pick up the work set, by phone.
