Year 6 Transition
Each year, we are excited to welcome new Year 7 students to our St Bart’s community. Joining secondary school is an exciting moment for students and their families, but we appreciate that it can often also be a bit daunting.
We are committed to a transition process that is informative and reassuring, with plenty of opportunities for students and families to engage with St Bart’s before they have their first official lesson!
Our Transition Process includes the following events:
Student Information Card
All students are sent a welcome letter with a Student Information Card to complete. The card is designed to allow us to start to get to know you, with students and parents sharing a little more information about the student’s interests, friendships and connections to St Bart’s. Members of our transition team will also liaise with primary schools to supplement that information.
House Welcome Events
Later in the summer term all students will be sent details on their new House and tutor group, including information on the House Welcome Events. Each of our four Houses will hold their own Welcome Evening with a talk from the Head of House and a chance to meet your new tutor.
Induction Day
Also in the summer term, all students will have the chance to spend a day at St Bart’s experiencing some lessons and learning more about life at our school.
Summer School
St Bart’s also runs a three-day Summer School for our incoming Year 7 at the beginning of the summer holidays. Students have the opportunity to make new friends, meet some of our staff, explore the school site and take part in a range of fun sessions. In the past these have included sport, dance, animation, creative writing, Combined Cadet Force, food technology, and art to name a few!
Year 7 Trip
Our Year 7 students also enjoy an outdoors adventure trip in the autumn term. This is a great chance for students to better get to know their peers, tutors and house heads in a fun and exciting environment. The trip is aimed at building self-confidence and encouraging teamwork. It supports students’ understanding of our BARTS Values (Brave, Ambitious, Respectful, Trustworthy and Safe) as they start their St Bart’s journey.
Last year our Year 7 students headed out on a trip to the New Forest Outdoor Centre. On both days the students showed amazing courage and support for each other. Students shared their views below.
“My trip to the New Forest was amazing! We did high and low ropes, archery, fire lighting and raft building. My personal favourite was the high and low ropes. Everyone supported each other and had such a fun time. Going to and back was so fun because everyone was talking and having so much fun.”
