The St Bart’s Year 7 football team capped off a tremendous season with a resounding win in the West Berkshire Final just before half term, beating John O’Gaunt 8-0 in an excellent all round team display.
This win built on the success the team have had in the county cup this year, beating The Embrook School, 10-0, Desborough College, 6-0, Edgbarrow School, 2-0 and Furze Platt Senior School, 2-1 on their march to the final. The final was played in front of a large crowd at Bracknell Town FC against Reading Blue Coat School.
In a game that was remarked on by the officials as the best school final they have seen in terms of excitement and quality, the boys played some superb football, but unfortunately finally succumbed to a bombardment of long throws in extra time, going down to a header in the last minute before penalties. This should take nothing away from an excellent performance, as on another day this was a game that could have easily gone the other way. We look forward to seeing the team progress and hopefully experience even more success in future years.
