A Busy March For St Bart’s CCF

12 March

The fifth and final preparation walk for Year 10 and 12 cadets aiming to undertake our own version of Ten Tors in late April, took place on 12 March. Carrying substantial weight in expedition packs, and with a planned route of around 21 miles over the Downs to the south of Newbury, this proved challenging for all. Undertaken in fine but windy conditions for the most part, we hope we have readied all of the participants for the Dartmoor event.

17-18 March

27 cadets supported by six CFAVs were involved in the Army NightEx. This entirely voluntary activity enabled those attending to hone their fieldcraft/battlecraft skills still further, engaging in basher building, cooking in the field, and both recce and fighting patrols. Despite the ever-changing weather, the event was enjoyed by all.

24 March

The Army section spent their Field Day at Bramley Training area near Basingstoke. Orienteering and fieldcraft activities were the key features with staff and senior cadets supervising 72 Year 10 cadets.

The RAF section spent the day at Benson. Despite the forecast windy conditions, all cadets were able to fly and this proved an excellent day.

The RN section travelled to Portsmouth where RN adults took charge of a session on low ropes and a variety of team building activities, much enjoyed by all.

We are now looking forward to our upcoming Adventure Training week on the Isle of Wight. Travelling out on Friday 31 March, 28 cadets will experience a variety of activities including archery, mountain biking, indoor climbing, trekking and water sports. Reports on both Adventure Training week and the Dartmoor 35 and 45 mile (Ten Tors) challenges will be in BartholoNews early next term.
