LINKS WITH EUROPEAN SCHOOLS
The MFL department currently has links with 3 European Schools. The strongest of these is its link with the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Monheim, Germany.
An annual exchange takes place, with students spending a week in an exchange partner’s family, going to school with them and seeing local sights. This is a tremendous opportunity to practise the language learnt in school as well as to gain an insight into the culture of Germany. In addition, since September 2015, St Bart’s has also accepted students from our partner school into our sixth form, providing an opportunity for German students to perfect their English, and for our students to meet youngsters from a different culture.
We also have links with schools in France and Spain. Our French partner school is the centre scolaire St-Joseph in Mirabel, near Lyon: and our Spanish partner school is Scola Elisabeth in Salou, near Barcelona:
Regular exchange take place with these schools. All exchanges are open to students in year 9 and above.
Over the past ten years, St Bart’s has maintained regular links with China. There have been visits to and from schools in Beijing, Jining, Shanghai and Qingdao, as well as a workshop on traditional Chinese Opera and musical instruments, Chinese New Year Parties and trips to a local Chinese restaurant to try out the cuisine. The main link is with Qingdao number 2 Middle School in Shandong Province. This is a high-achieving school on the coast between Beijing and Shanghai. We run an exchange programme with this school which is open to all students in year 9 and above.
