Sixth Form + (Level 2)

Sixth Form + Programme

What is the Sixth Form + Programme?

Alongside our Level 3 programme, St Bart’s offer our Sixth Form + Level 2 programme.  The programme has been designed in partnership with Newbury College and with support from a network of local employers. It offers students the chance to boost their GCSE portfolio while simultaneously preparing them for the world of work.

Sixth Form + is designed for students who have not secured the required grades at Key Stage 4 to enrol on A Level and Level 3 BTEC courses. For Sixth Form+, students should have a Grade 3 in either/both English Language or Mathematics and/or Students who want to pursue a more vocational/work-based programme post-16.

Deputy Head, Mr Robbins discusses the Sixth Form+ Programme in this short video.

Sixth Form + is a one year programme (Monday – Friday ) and is composed of three core elements:

  • Mathematics and English: If students have not successfully secured passes in either or both GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics, they will benefit from our excellent teaching in these subjects and re-sit these subjects over the course of the year.
  • Vocational Programme with Work Experience Opportunities: Students will choose one from a range of exciting vocational courses offered by Newbury College to secure a Level 2 qualification or industry entry expectation qualification.
  • Support and Guidance: Students will be led by the Deputy Headteacher at St Bart’s who, in liaison with colleagues at St Bart’s and Newbury College, will support and manage all parts of the programme. Students will have access to academic support coaches and job coaches.

Following successful completion of the programme, students will be in a strong position to pursue employment, further vocational training or A Level/ Level 3 BTEC courses at St Bart’s or elsewhere.
