Last Wednesday, we celebrated the inaugural St Bart’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards. The Awards recognised students for their participation and the achievement of sports colours, alongside Personality of the Year and Team of the Year. Lauren Bell, England Cricketer and former St Bart’s student, recorded a special message for us in which she told the students “I was once sat where you are and now I’m living my dream”. Lauren, who has just graduated with a degree in Sociology from Loughborough University, spoke of the importance of doing whatever makes you happy, working hard and having a backup plan! Here is her full message.
The awards evening was organised by the PE Department and follows our recent adoption of a new West Berkshire Co-curricular Provision Programme, which has seen a renewed focus around mass participation, inclusivity and the broadest possible sports offer. The evening also included a speech from the Old Newburians’ Association and a celebration of the many festivals in which the school has participated this year.
