Skills For Success Fortnight

In order to give our students the very best start to Sixth Form in September 2021 we hosted a “Skills for Success” fortnight for our current Year 11 students. Running from Monday 7 June to Friday 18 June, the programme included a wide variety of activities as well as taster sessions in their chosen subjects. Events included; an employability workshop afternoon with West Berkshire Volunteer Centre and Vodafone, and a wide range of talks from industry experts including a forensic psychiatrist and a Covid vaccine expert. There were also fun extra-curricular activities, such as conducting a mock trial, CCF and PE sessions. Plus advice from the current Head students about contributing to the wider school community all came together to give students a real taste of our vibrant Sixth Form life.

Students met their new teachers and the Sixth Form Team, giving them a great grounding for Sixth Form in September.

Henry Garrety who took part said, “I found the Skills for Success fortnight really useful. I feel it has helped me to better understand the expectations in the Sixth Form and I have had a taste of the skills which will be developed over the next two years. There were also some interesting external speakers. I’m feeling especially confident about my decision to join the Sixth Form after this fortnight. My advice to other students? Don’t let your fears hold you back; walk away and start achieving.

This year’s Year 11 have had a challenging year with all the uncertainties that have surrounded the pandemic. The fortnight went extremely well and culminated in a year group barbecue on the final Friday to celebrate this resilient cohort’s achievements so far.
