The Spanish Exchange 2020

The week before half term, 15 of our students returned from the annual Spanish Exchange trip. The students spent a week with a host family in the beautiful coastal town of Salou, located an hour from Barcelona.

The students took part in organised excursions during the day to learn about the culture and history of the region as well as have opportunities to practise their Spanish in shops and cafés. In the evening and at the weekend, the students stayed with their Spanish Exchange partner and family and so were fully immersed in the Spanish way of life. Whilst this can be daunting to begin with, it means that the students are able to practise conversational Spanish and gives them the opportunity to put all that they have learnt in Spanish lessons at school into practice and learn much more besides! What did the students think?

“The Spanish Exchange 2020 was the best. It’s a great experience; you learn loads of Spanish

and have fun too.” Jaia, Y9

“For the Spanish Exchange I would 100% recommend going because it is such a great experience to get out in the world. Being with your exchange family is nerve-wracking at first but you soon start to have an amazing time.” Holly, Y9

Going on the Spanish exchange gave me the opportunity to speak Spanish as much as I could, make new friends and go to many amazing places with great views. I will miss the family lot and cannot wait for June!” Mabel Y10

“The Spanish exchange is a massive learning experience for many reasons. The culture in Spain is very different to that of England and it was interesting to see how they live. My favourite part of the trip was when we went to Barcelona and saw Mount Juïc and then went shopping.”  Frankie, Y11

After meeting our exchange partners for the first time, our nerves were calmed and throughout the week we had the opportunity to try lots of activities and Spanish food as well as practise our speaking skills. …..without a doubt I have made some friends for life.” Lucy, Y11

Huge thanks to Mrs Wood, Mrs Clare and Miss Brown for accompanying this trip and so allowing the students to gain from this hugely rewarding experience.
