What is the 16-19 Bursary?
The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund is money provided by the government for schools to support disadvantaged students to overcome financial barriers to participation in education.
A bursary is money that a student, or St Bart’s on their behalf, can use to pay for things like:
- trips, books and other equipment to support courses
- transport and lunch on days when students attend Sixth Form
- contributions to train travel for university open days
There are two types of 16 to 19 Bursary available:
- Vulnerable Bursary
- Discretionary Bursary
To receive either Bursary students must be aged 16 or over but under 19 on 31 August 2025. Students aged 19 or over are only eligible to receive a Discretionary Bursary if they are continuing on a study programme they began aged 16 to 18 (‘19+ continuers’) or have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Check your eligibility by reading our Bursary Guidance Sheet:
If you think you may qualify for a Vulnerable Bursary or Discretionary Bursary, please contact Mrs Garrety, Student Support, in person or via hgarrety@stbarts.co.uk
