Sixth Form Admissions
Thank you for your interest in St Bart’s Sixth Form. Whatever a student’s aspirations may be, we are committed to engaging all students in sixth form life; to encouraging academic rigour, to providing leadership opportunities and to preparing students for their next steps in the wider world. Below you will find information on how to apply to join St Bart’s Sixth Form and we would also encourage you to explore our Sixth Form pages.

How do I apply to St Bart’s Sixth Form?
The Application Portal will be made available via the website following our Open Evening on 24 October, along with confirmation of the application deadline.
While our admissions policy states: ‘Late applications will be considered if there are places available on the relevant courses’ we cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer any places to students who apply after the official deadline. Applicants from beyond St Bart’s are required to upload their most recent school report alongside their application. Please note without your report we will be unable to arrange an interview with you.
What is the application process?
Exact details and dates for the different stages of the application process are confirmed during the process. However, please see below an outline of what to expect:
October
Application Window opens on Open Evening
December
Application Window closes (16th December deadline). If we require any further information, we will be in touch. Otherwise, we will contact applicants in the New Year with further details of the next stages in the application process.
January/February/March
Meetings with staff to explore your application and finalise subject choices.
April
Places are confirmed and students will have the option to formally accept their place.
June
Sixth Form Taster Days. These days provide a great opportunity to follow your intended Sixth Form Programme and make subject change requests where desirable. We always encourage all students to participate, even if they still have not made their final decision about Sixth Form.
August
Following GCSE results, we will ask students to make formal contact with the Sixth Form to confirm that they will definitely be taking up their place to study in St Bart’s.
What are the Sixth Form Entry Requirements?
Our overriding aim is to ensure that students access courses which they will be able to complete successfully.
General
To access our wide range of Level 3 (A Level and BTEC National Extended Certificate) courses, we look for students to secure a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 5 (or Merit at Level 2 BTEC).
If a student meets these requirements but does not secure a Grade 4 in English Language and/or Mathematics, then s/he will be required to attend lessons and re-sit GCSE exams in these subjects in the Sixth Form.
For subject specific entry requirements, please visit our subject pages.
Can I make changes to my Level 3 subject choices?
Students are encouraged to make their initial selection as carefully as possible, referring to the subject pages on our website and speaking with students and staff at the Open Evening in order to establish whether a course is right for them.
Students at St Bart’s in Year 11 are encouraged to not submit their applications until after the results of Year 11 Practice Examinations are reported. No subject changes will be processed after the submission of applications until we meet with students to discuss options in the Spring. Changes can be requested at that time and immediately after the Taster Days in June.
Changes can again be requested after the publication of GCSE Results but we will not process these or confirm them until the first week of term. We try to accommodate all change requests, but we may not be able to do so in all circumstances.
Do you have a catchment area?
Catchment areas do not apply in the Sixth Form and you can apply to us wherever you live. A very significant number of Year 12 students join us from other schools every year.
Do you offer support with the cost of Sixth Form?
The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund is money provided by the government for schools to support disadvantaged students to overcome financial barriers to participation in education. If you have a household income below £25,000, for students in care, care leavers or those are in receipt of benefits in their own right, students may be able to receive the 16 to 19 Bursary.
The Bursary can be used for financial help with Sixth Form expenses such as transport, meals, books, school trips, exam re-sits and equipment. Applications must be made on an annual basis and all students will be sent more information about eligibility for the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund and how to apply in September.
