Life in the Sixth Form
St Bart’s Sixth Form is about academic achievement, new adventures, opportunities for leadership and a sense of belonging.
It represents a significant change from students’ experience of school in Years 7-11. Sixth Form students are expected to work and think independently, take on new responsibilities and are given new freedoms.
We are a large Sixth Form of over 600 students, with a very significant number of Year 12 students joining us from other schools every year. Students belong to one of our four school Houses with a designated Sixth Form House Leader, who has an overview of each students’ achievements and targets. Students also belong to a sixth form tutor group, with the tutor seeing students every day and providing support every step of the way.
Sixth Form life is based around our open and modern Common Room, which offers space for socialising and for study. Adjacent to the Common Room is the Sixth Form Canteen, as well as the Sixth Form House Leaders Office and Student Support Office. Sixth Form students also benefit from separate study rooms and all our subjects are supported by state-of-the-art facilities, meaning we are able to provide a vibrant and effective learning environment.
Alongside individual subjects there is a huge portfolio of ways for students to make their mark at St Bart’s. Students can get involved with attending or leading clubs, supporting House competitions or charitable projects and they are encouraged to take a student leadership role, including applying to become a Head Student, House Captain or Subject Representative. The school enjoys a considerable reputation on the sports field, and at Sixth Form level there are excellent interschool fixture lists. Sports are also available to Sixth Form students on a more social basis on Wednesday afternoons.
The Sixth Form social scene is driven by our School Officers, who each year organise an array of events including fundraising events, quizzes, open mics, karaoke, crafternoons, barbecues and balls. There is truly something from everyone and if a student feels something is missing, wherever possible, we will support them in setting up a new club, event or initiative. Students can explore and find out more at our Annual Societies Fair.
