Houses
Every student who joins the school becomes a member of one of the four Houses. The Houses, Curnock, Davis, Evers and Patterson, are named after four old boys of St. Bartholomew’s Grammar School who were killed in the First World War.
Students quickly form loyalties and a sense of belonging to their House. Each House has a House Head, a House Achievement & Progress Leader and a House Manager (Year 7-11) and a Sixth Form Leader (Year 12-13), who support a team of form tutors. The tutors, through their daily and regular contacts with their tutor group, build up an understanding of each of their tutees and help to ensure that the experience of being at school is as positive as possible.

House Competitions
Each year, all the Houses compete to win house trophies, including the coveted House Championship Cup. Students are actively encouraged to get involved and support their House.
Students can earn House Points to count towards the Championship Cup by demonstrating our school BARTS values. Throughout the year there are also a huge number of House competitions and the annual St Bart’s Sports Days are also an opportunity to win vital House points. Sixth Form have their own programme of competitions driven by the students, which count towards the Sixth Form Cup.
In 2023/24 the results were as follows:
- Davis won the Academic Shield (Progress Points, Year 7-9 Milestone Points, House Points)
- Curnock
- Curnock won the Arts & Enrichment Shield (Whole School Quiz, Music, Drama, Dance, Film, Arts & Graphics, Debating, Chess, Science)
- Patterson won the Citizenship Shield (Attendance, Awards, Charity Fundraising)
- Davis won the Sports Shield (Sports Day and many sports competitions!)
- Davis won the Sixth Cup
These all count towards the Championship Cup which in 2023/24 was won by DAVIS for the third year running!!!
House Charities
Each of our Houses has a long standing relationship with a local charity. Throughout the year, students and staff are encouraged and supported to raise money for their nominated charity.
St Bart’s hold annual House Evenings in which students from each House can choose to perform (sing, play, act, dance, tell jokes and much more) to our audience, with all the money raised from the evening going to our House charities.
Houses & the School Community
The House system also acts as a link between the different age groups in the school, providing the chance for years to work together and for leadership opportunities for our older students. Our House and Vice House Captains act as role models to others in school. Other examples of leadership include House Drama in which all the plays are written by our Sixth Formers who direct our Year 10 & Year 8 actors. In House Film Year 10 students work with students from Years 7-9 (the Junior category) and Year 13 lead a team of Year 12s and 11s (the Senior category).
