Patterson House is named after Robert Arthur Patterson (1896-1917)
Robert Arthur Patterson entered St Bartholomew’s School in 1907. He excelled academically, obtaining Junior and Senior County Scholarships, third and Second Class Honours in the Cambridge Senior Local Examinations, achieving a distinction in French, and several School Prizes. Patterson played half-back for the school football team, captaining the School XI during the 1911-12 season, and was an excellent actor and speaker.
After travelling for 18 months in France and Germany, Patterson entered Jesus College, Cambridge, but his study there was cut short, as he joined the Army early in the First World War. By spring 1915 Patterson was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade, and became Captain in the spring of 1917. He was killed on the12 April 1917, a few days after his promotion, whilst leading an attack on a German trench. He is buried in Pont-du-Jour Military Cemetery, Athies, France.
