U14 Football
On Friday 2 October, our U14 girls played The Forest School in the next round of the National Cup. With nearly a full squad to choose from, except Molly who was nursing an injury, the girls were raring to go. They came flying out of the blocks with multiple chances created but not finding the net, which became a recurring theme throughout the match!
Forest’s goalkeeper was excellent, making numerous saves to keep the score 0-0. Finally, Amy managed to squeeze a good strike into the bottom left corner giving us a 1-0 lead. At this point, we felt like we were in complete control and it was just a matter of how many we could score. However, a long ball over the top led to their striker nipping in behind, past Freya in goal and rolling in the equaliser. It was completely against the run of play and their first shot of the half!
The half-time team talk consisted of Miss Bilcliff being quite clear in saying we had to convert our chances. The second half mirrored the first with St Bart’s creating plenty of chances, including an effort that hit the post from Flo but still no goal. As time ticked on, Miss Bilcliff’s heart rate went up and up. But at long last, the winning goal came from a great move down the right and Scarlett was there to put the ball away for the win.
A huge well done to the girls who have started this year extremely well. Freya (the goalkeeper) was given Player of the match which did make us chuckle as she didn’t have much to do all game! Miss Bilcliff’s Player of the match went to Lucia for a commanding performance at centre back
