St Bart’s started brightly, with George scoring an early try to give the team the perfect start. Trinity soon settled into the match and the next ten minutes were extremely competitive, with both sides showing some excellent rugby. St Bart’s eventually broke through for their second try, before Trinity responded with a well-deserved score of their own. The remainder of the first half continued to be an evenly matched contest, with both teams creating opportunities. St Bart’s added two further tries, while Trinity continued to threaten with two tries of their own. At half-time, St Bart’s led 20–10.
St Bart’s came flying out of the blocks in the second half. George was outstanding, scoring three tries in quick succession to put St Bart’s firmly in control. However, Trinity refused to give up. They continued to apply pressure and fought their way back into the match with three tries, bringing the score to 35–30 and setting up a thrilling final two minutes. With the game on the line, St Bart’s gave away possession after choosing to kick for territory. The ball fell to one of Trinity’s strongest ball carriers, who powered through the St Bart’s defence and looked certain to score. However, just metres from the try line, Jack produced a superb game-saving tackle, stopping Trinity from scoring what would have been the equalising try.
The final whistle brought an end to a brilliant game of school rugby and a hard-earned 35–30 victory for St Bart’s. Both teams deserve huge credit for the competitive spirit and determination they showed throughout. Players of the match were George, who scored four tries and gave an outstanding attacking performance and Jack, who made several crucial tackles, including the one that saved the game in the final moments. It was a fantastic competitive display from the whole St Bart’s team. Well done to everyone involved!
