Horticulture
This option will involve working as a team in the outdoors to enhance the school grounds. This will include:
- Growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables
- Propagating plants from seed and cuttings
- Developing the Nature Reserve
- Constructing features for display on the school grounds
- Landscaping skills
Recent projects include:
- Designing and developing the Heritage Garden
- Designing and building the Heritage Garden fountain
- Making the giant bird feeder in the Nature Reserve
- Building the stream and waterfall in the Nature Reserve
- Developing and maintaining a wildflower meadow
- Growing and selling plants
Horticulture is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and an appreciation for the natural world, whilst learning skills that will help you become a great gardener or landscaper in the future. You will need to work in the great outdoors (even when it is cold and wet!) and be willing to work hard, but will get great satisfaction from the achievements of the team.
