The Year 9 girls supported by some Year 8 girls went to Trinity School for the first round of their West Berkshire Football League. Two teams of eager footballers took to the pitch and played some excellent football.
The A team won all 3 games beating St Gabriel’s School A team, 2-0, Theale Green School, 6-0, and Park House School, 7-0.
The B team lost to Kennet School A team, 0-2, and lost to The Downs School, 0-2.
Very well done to you all, some great play by you all.

Box House Theatre company performed an amazing show of ‘Twisted Tales’ last Tuesday, which was fast-paced, energetic and hilarious.
Their workshop was informative and extremely useful for all students in Year 10-13 taking either GCSE or A Level Drama to understand different performance skills and ways to explore more physical focused performance styles, such as mime and physical theatre. We got to know them as a company and built an understanding of their style, platform theatre.

Huge congratulations to Year 13 students Aayush Joshi and Sohaib Alam who have been awarded a prestigious Gold Award in the BPhO Computational Challenge 2024.
The BPhO encourages the study of physics and recognises excellence in young physicists through annual competitions. In order to compete for a Gold Award, Aayush and Sohaib attended a series of weekly online talks on Computational Physics given by Dr Andrew French of Winchester College. These sessions were held in order to train and expose applicants to a range of areas of computational physics before the release of the competition and its theme in April.
This year’s competition theme was on modelling projectile motion, with applicants completing nine different challenges in a programming language of their choice. Aayush and Sohaib chose C++ and began the first challenge by plotting the horizontal and vertical displacement calculated using suvat equations (A level Physics and Mathematics curriculum). Towards the end of the challenges, the students were using verlet integration to model bounces, as well as modelling the path of a projectile experiencing air resistance with different cross-sectional areas. This is extremely advanced physics and coding, and is a truly a fantastic achievement.
Our Year 7 girls took part in their first ever fixture at St Bart’s last week. They played their first round of West Berkshire football league fixtures and did brilliantly! We put forward 21 girls in total, which was amazing to see, and we look forward to seeing them grow and develop into mini Lionesses.
Our A team won all their games without conceding, starting with a 3-0 win against St Gabriel’s School. Freya, Sophia and Lily all scored. They then beat Theale Green School, 1-0, thanks to a winning goal from Molly. Finally they beat Park House School B, 2-0, with Freya and Elizabeth both scoring. A huge shout-out to Freya who was our goalkeeper but came out to take two free kicks and scored both! Unbelievable scenes.
Our B team also did us proud, despite narrowly losing 1-0 to The Downs School and drawing 0-0 with Kennet School A when we had chances to win the game. Well done to all involved!

Yesterday we were delighted to open our doors to the latest cohort of Year 6 and Year 5 students considering St Bart’s as their chosen secondary school. The event is a wonderful showcase of all the school’s achievements. We had a fantastic turn out from our local primary schools and it was great to see prospective students and their families discovering all the exciting opportunities on offer at St Bart’s.
Dr Fitter, Headteacher, gave two talks in the school hall during the evening and our student tour guides were once again on hand to show visitors around the building and the many subject hubs, including badge making with English, treasuring hunting with Maths, scratch game coding with Computer Science, mono printing with Art, the ‘Tower Block Head Challenge’ with 3D Design, explaining ‘Big Questions’ with Religious Studies, taking part in huge number of sports or a murder mystery with Drama – to name just some of the array of activities happening throughout the evening.
A particular highlight was the PE department welcoming special guests Toby Garbett, retired Olympic Rower and Tri athlete and Becky Wilde, Paris 2024 Olympics Bronze Medallist in the Women’s Double Skull. Toby and Becky were joined by our KS4 Living for Sport course students to encourage our young visitors to get involved with some fitness and team building skills. We are so grateful for their time and for inspiring our students.
Guests also enjoyed refreshments in the canteen and were entertained by our talented School Orchestra playing in the Hub.
We hope everyone who came had a positive experience and left us feeling excited about the step up to secondary school. The evening would simply not be possible without the hard work of all our staff and the support of the current students who played several roles on the night and made visitors so welcome. We thank them for being great ambassadors for the school.

Last week our Year 7 Curnock and Davis students headed out on a trip to the New Forest Outdoor Centre with tutors and our House teams. This was a great opportunity for the latest St Bart’s cohort to get to know each other outside the classroom.
Three groups spent the day rotating around raft building, low and high ropes, archery and fire building. We saw some fantastic demonstrations of our school’s BARTS values – brave, ambitious, respectful, trustworthy and safe – and teamwork skills. Some of the raft building was more successful than others but all the students tackled the challenges head on and with plenty of smiles! Tomorrow it is the turn of Evers and Patterson.

Last Wednesday, we hosted our annual Clubs and Societies Fair in the School Hall. St Bart’s offers a huge range of co-curricular andclubs activities, there is definitely something for everyone and students are actively encouraged to get involved. Clubs are held during lunchtime (activity time) and after school every day of the week during term time.
All students are encouraged to visit the showcase but the event is particularly designed to help our new Year 7 students explore the many opportunities that are open to them. Please do ask your child about what they discovered. We hope they all found something that sparked their interest and that they will be brave and try something new in the coming term.
Final Day of Term is Tuesday 22 July. Students will be dismissed at 12.30pm. School returns on Wednesday 3 September: Year 7, 10 & 12 at 8.30am, Year 8, 9 & 11 at 9.50am, Year 13 at 11.10am. Information on Exam Results Days can be found here:EXAM INFORMATION
