German Exchange 20th Anniversary

42 St Bart’s families hosted German exchange partners on their return visit to us from the Otto-Hahn Gymnasium in Monheim between Monday 14 and Monday 21 September.

The German students’ week involved a day in our school, participating in lessons and observing the differences between schools in Germany and England.

The exchange students also went to Oxford and to London with their teachers and on a joint day-trip to Bath with their English partners. The highlight of this year’s exchange return visit was the 20th anniversary evening event led by the Cumberland Ceilidh Band to mark the celebration of the long-standing, historical link between the two schools.

Otto-Hahn Gymnasium’s film crew also interviewed participating exchange students throughout the week, so as to produce part two of a very special 20th anniversary video of this year’s exchange.

The MFL team would like to thank all of the families and school staff who made it possible to rearrange the return visit for September. Preparations for our 2027 German Exchange are well underway. Current Year 9, 10 and 12 students are warmly invited to consider taking part in the next German Exchange which visits Monheim in January 2027, with exchange students coming to us in July 2027. The deadline for applications for the 2027 Exchange is 18 October 2026.
